Summer Youth 2010 Chess

This is my first video shot entirely with the Canon Rebel or 550D DSLR T2i. This is a promo I shot and produced free of charge to help the non-profit Alabama Scholastic Chess Foundation Summer 2010 Mind Sports series, a free event which takes place every Sunday afternoon in a local bookstore. It 's designed to get local kids excited about chess, Go, Checkers International, and other classic games. I only used a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, Manfrotto tripod with a flash and a folding brace, which became asteady-improvised rig for handheld shots. I am a former news shooter, so I'm pretty stable as it is, but with the T2i/550D EF 50mm is a 80mm equivalent harvest, and you must a), zoom with your feet and b) a little camera movement. It 's also the first project that I worked with my new MacBook Pro with Final Cut Studio. I used Motion graphics for starting and built at the end of graphics on the timeline of FCP. Color grading is in the FCP Color Corrector 3-way only. This was veryuseful due to the strong mix of outdoor sunlight from bay windows and high overhead tungsten lights. Another great tool that helped was the SmoothCam filter, which I found was the perfect solution to soften the inevitable jitter handheld using the main lens. I applied the filter to each clip individually after I had the footage on the timeline for the shots that did not use a tripod, even though I left some of the shots near the end by just like the music a bit 'intensified.
